Salts

Salts:

A salt is a compound formed by neutralization reaction between  an acid with a base in which the hydrogen of the acid is replaced by the metal which is a part of base.

Example: The most familiar salt is sodium chloride, the principal component of common table salt. Sodium chloride, NaCl, and water H_{2}O are formed by neutralization reaction between sodium hydroxide( NaOH) a base, with hydrogen chloride, HCl, an acid.

                                                     HCl+NaOHrightarrow NaCl+H_{2}O.

In Sodium chloride (NaCl) formation positively charged ion, sodium (Na^{+}) is coming from sodium hydroxide and negatively charged ion, chlorine (Cl^{-}) is coming from hydrochloric acid.

  • large 2KOH + H_2SO_4 rightarrow K_2SO_4 + 2H_20
  • large Mg(OH)_2 + 2HNO_3 rightarrow Mg (NO_3)_2 + 2H_2O
  • Salt can be acidic, basic or natural.
